As you may be aware from the recent announcement in the local newspapers by Luke Donnellan MP (State Member for Narre Warren North), Timbarra Secondary College will finally become a reality.  The Timbarra 7-9 campus will become part of Timbarra PS thus becoming Timbarra P-9 College.

The following information has been provided by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD).

Timbarra 7-9 project details as follows:

 

Creation of a new campus to cater for years 7 to 9 on the existing Timbarra PS site and adjoining College green field site.

 

Development of two learning communities each with a variety of  learning spaces for a  P – 9 school in addition to the existing primary school facilities

 

 

The new 7 – 9  component will include:

 

Upgrade of and refurbishment of the existing Primary School administration area to cater for additional staff and administrative tasks commensurate for a P – 9 school. This will entail redevelopment of existing library/resource space being converted to administrative use.

 

Construction of a new Resource/Library centre to cater for P – 9

 

The construction of two purpose designed flexible learning spaces that will cater for years 7 – 9 with a variety of learning areas including seminar spaces, project areas, multi disciplinary creative studios, IT facilities, display areas, student amenities, staff areas and associated support facilities. These new facilities will bring together design, art, science and technology and general learning areas.

 

In addition there will be a combined indoor sporting facility comprising three basketball courts. The DEECD is funding one of the courts with the funding for the remaining two to be provided by the City of Casey.  This facility will also contain home economics, music and drama spaces together with student amenities and a canteen.

 

Additional staff car parking and landscaping including two new outside basket ball hard-court areas

 

Frequently asked QUESTIONS and answers

Information Evening Meeting for Timbarra P-9 College

Monday 15th June at 7pm.

1.      Road access through Belldale is blocked, not allowing through road to Narre Warren North Road – will this be changed?

City of Casey will manage this issue

2.      Parking – will there be more and wider spaces?  Parking is already congested just with the Primary School.

In the Master Plan you will see additional Parking has been provided for staff as with Q1 though traffic management will be coordinated by the City of Casey.

3.      When will the P-9 College be running?

Year 7 will commence in 2011, Year 8 2012, Year 9 2013

4.      I have a daughter starting high school 2010 and another 2011. If I start 2010 and school opens 2011 will I be able to bring my daughter back from Berwick secondary to new school to join sister starting in 2011?

As in the previous question, the school will begin with a year 7 enrolment in 2011, there will be no year 8 until 2012 so your eldest daughter will be that one year too early

5.      If we live on Timbarra Estate or Bellbird Park Estate do our children have to go to Timbarra Secondary College or can they still go to Berwick Secondary, which is where they are zoned for now.

No - You will have priority for Berwick SC if that is your first choice

6.      What happens when they reach Year 10 – where are they meant to go?  Berwick Secondary won’t be able to accommodate their own Year 9 & Timbarra Year 9 when they both need to go into year 10.

Parents and students will be able to choose from a variety of Secondary Colleges dependent upon programs the best meet students’ needs – however if the endorsed neighbourhood boundary is still in place in 2013, enrolment in Berwick SC and Kambrya College will be restricted. At year 10 students who attend Timbarra SC who live in the Berwick neighbourhood boundary will be able to enrol in year 10 at Berwick SC.

 

7.      Is there going to be a full size oval?  Will it have lights? Will there be clubroom facilities?

No. Not provided by DEECD. But in the future this may be considered

8.      Are there plans to continue the school to Yr 12, if not where will students complete their schooling?

There are no plans to continue the school to Year 12

9.      Staffing – what will the structure be? Catchment area?

The staffing  for the school is set by DEECD through the schools enrolment numbers. The structure will be determined by the principal of the school to provide the best educational outcomes within the restrictions of the school budget.

The school will have no “endorsed neighbourhood boundary” when it opens

10.  Will the whole school be ready for the start of the 2010 school year?

The school will be built in two stages Stage 1 will be completed for Year 7 to commence in 2011, Year 8 2012, Year 9 2013

11.  Will the Primary school children be able to use the drama and PE facilities?

All students from Prep to Year 9 will have full access to all facilities including the Drama and PE facilities The school timetabling of the schools facilities will be determined by the principal in consultation with the staff.
